The Society is delighted to provide members and non-members with this opportunity to expand your learning and up-skill in respect of Facility Management.  This programme will present an overview of the sector and insight on the type and level of knowledge and expertise required of a competent professional facility manager.


Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for those new to Facility Management but is also suitable for established professionals who wish to expand their skillset and network.

If you are trying to get an understanding of the role of the Facility Manager and would like to meet some like-minded people, or maybe you are working in the sector and would like to progress your career in the profession, then this course is for you.



1. The role of the Facility Manager

Topics will include:

  • The role of the Facilities Manager and how it is evolving
  • Hard and Soft Services, Core and Non Core.   
  • The importance of Procurement within the Property and FM function  
  • Project Management   

2. Legislation

Topics will include:

  • The Irish Legal System
  • Legal Concepts
  • Foundation Company and Contract law
  • Foundation Property Law

3. Finance & Budgeting

Topics will include:

  • Foundation Budget Management
  • Working Capital & Cash-flow
  • Income Statements & Balance Sheets

4. Insurance

Topics will include:

  • The insurance marketplace
  • The need for insurance
  • Foundation insurance principles and products
  • Fundamentals of risk management

5. Health and Safety

Topics will include:

  • Basics of legislation and regulation
  • Developing systems and culture
  • Risk Assessment basics
  • Safety Statement and Safety Management Systems

6. Customer Service & Relationship Management

Topics will include:

  • Service Level Agreements
  • Tendering
  • Contracts
  • Team Building
  • Professional Reporting

Award & Next Steps

  • Those who complete the course will receive an MediKids Certificate.
